Flu shots are becoming necessary, especially with the upcoming flu season. Influenza should be taken very seriously, since the disease can even lead to a person dying. No two flu seasons will be similar to each other and each person can get infected in a different manner. Healthy individuals can also get infected and then these individuals can spread the disease to other people. The reason why no two flu seasons are similar to each other is that the flu virus never remains the same. The more the people that get vaccinated against flu each season, the lesser the chances of it spreading around to other communities and people.
People Who Should Get Flu Shots
Babies who are 6 months old to individuals who are older should get vaccinated every flu season. This is because a flu shot will last only one flu season. The recommendation for this has been officially placed by the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices on 24th February, 2010. Flu vaccinations are especially important for all the people who are likely to get other complications as a result of flu. The complications could arise as a result of certain factors related to health or age.
People Who Should Not Get Flu Shots
Different types of flu vaccinations can be given to people in different groups. There are certain factors that need to be considered for determining which flu vaccine would be suitable for which type of person. These factors include the current and past health of a person, their allergies, and age. Some of these factors include:
- A very bad allergy to eggs
- A history of severe reaction to a flu vaccine
- An illness associated with a fever in which case you should wait it out until you get better
- A history of Guillain–Barré Syndrome which is a severe paralytic illness
When you have any of the above, you should seek the assistance of a medical practitioner regarding how you should proceed. They will be able to guide you with regards to what you should do in a better manner.
